"It will create another welcoming place for people to gather, connect and enjoy all that Crabapple has to offer, while supporting the local businesses that make this area so special," Mayor Peyton Jamison said in August, when the City of Milton announced a new outdoor event space at Market District Crabapple. Two months later, that lawn and the older Green at Crabapple Market share a downtown calendar that keeps going well after Crabapple Fest. The festival ran yesterday, Oct. 3. In the sixteen days from Oct. 9 to Oct. 24, downtown Milton and its edges have eight more dated events.
Crabapple Fest set the tone. This year it added its first temporary stage, with three bands, alongside more than 100 vendors. Crabapple Road closed to through traffic from about 10 a.m. Friday until late Saturday for setup and teardown. The roadblocks are gone now. What follows is a month of smaller evenings, and they now have more than one lawn to choose from.
Two Lawns on Either Side of Heritage Walk
Downtown Crabapple's outdoor life now runs out of two separate venues, and it helps to know which is which. Their names are similar, and they are run independently.
- The Green at Crabapple Market is the established lawn. It has its own events calendar, and this October that calendar is busy with a makers' market, live music, comedy and an outdoor film. Nearby, the Crabapple Market directory lists Poe & Company Bookstore, Whitetail Bicycles, Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming, Indigo Home & Design and Metamorphosis Fine Arts & Crafts Gallery, which is marked as now open at 1870 Heritage Walk.
- Market District Green is the new one. It sits at the far eastern end of Market District Crabapple, the development along the east side of Heritage Walk, directly across from Hyde Brewing. The City announced its opening on Aug. 6. Its neighbors on Market District's own roster include Vice Steak Bar, Smash Burgers by Vice, Yum! Thai Cuisine & Bar and Suite 200 Grille.
The new lawn opened with the All Nashville Roadshow, a country music concert that had already played the same spot the previous summer. Beyond that, the City confirmed only one regular tenant for the space, the Milton Farmers Market. That arrangement brings the City's monthly market to the east end of the district, a block of Heritage Walk that until this summer had mostly been a place to go for dinner.
Eight Dates in Sixteen Days
After the festival, the month fills in at a steady pace, and nearly every week has at least two things on it. In date order:
- Friday, Oct. 9, 4 to 7 p.m. Shop, Sip & Stroll on The Green at Crabapple Market, with more than 35 local artisans and makers and live music from Acoustic Soul.
- Saturday, Oct. 10, 7 to 9 p.m. Grace on The Green, featuring Kevin Swan & The Well Collective.
- Wednesday, Oct. 14, 7:30 to 9 p.m. The Punchline Comedy Night on The Green.
- Thursday, Oct. 15, 4 to 8 p.m. Wanderlust Food Truck Fest Crabapple, listed on the Crabapple Market calendar.
- Saturday, Oct. 17, 7 to 9 p.m. An interactive screening of "Goonies" on The Green.
- Sunday, Oct. 18, 2 to 4 p.m. The City's Rivers Alive volunteer cleanup at Providence Park, focused on shoreline and stream buffers.
- Wednesday, Oct. 21, 4 to 7 p.m. The Milton Farmers Market at Market District Crabapple. The 2026 season began May 20 and runs on the third Wednesday of each month through October, so this is the last market of the year.
- Saturday, Oct. 24, 4 to 7 p.m. Carvin' in Crabapple at Broadwell Pavilion, 12615 Broadwell Road, with pumpkin carving, Trunk-or-Treat, crafts and food trucks.
The calendar mixes three organizers. Crabapple Market's lawn hosts most of the evening entertainment. The City runs the farmers market, the cleanup and the pumpkin carving. Market District's new green takes the final farmers market. No single venue is carrying the month on its own. For anyone checking the City's older event page for Carvin' in Crabapple, it still lists a Saturday, Oct. 25 without a year. The City's 2026 announcement and calendar both give Oct. 24.
What the East End Is Still Building
Market District Green opened before it was finished, and the City says so. Plans call for a permanent stage that would make the space more flexible for different kinds of events. A new office building and extensive landscaping are meant to separate that stage from nearby homes, and the City describes the whole project as matching the character of the existing district and of downtown Milton generally.
Two other ideas are on the table, though neither has been confirmed. In August, the City said Market District was looking into an outdoor skating rink starting in November, and the research for this piece turned up no later announcement of dates, hours or pricing. The same announcement said Crabapple Live, the monthly mini-festival the City co-sponsors, could return to the space next spring and summer. If both happen, the east end of Heritage Walk would have programming in winter and in warm weather, a big change for a lawn that hosted its first event this August.
Getting Downtown Before the Month Is Out
Traffic around Crabapple has been a sticking point all fall, and the most useful update arrives around the time of the last October events. The status of each road project below is current as of the most recent public update.
| Project | Where things stand | Latest public date |
|---|---|---|
| Freemanville Road bridge over Cooper Sandy Creek, south of Providence Road | On track to reopen by the end of October | City update, Sept. 17, 2026 |
| New signal at Crabapple Road and Green Road | Activation slipped from July 30 to Aug. 12, then to an expected Aug. 20; go-live not confirmed in available reporting | City post, Aug. 18, 2026, as reported by Appen Media |
| Roundabout at Crabapple Road and Green Road | Council authorized a request for $1 million in federal preliminary-engineering funds, with a 20% TSPLOST match | City update, Jan. 22, 2026 |
The bridge matters most for downtown evenings. The old span was closed and taken down late last May. Since then, a GDOT-contracted crew from Williams Contracting has been building the new one. The September update said the crew was finishing the approach slabs and grooving the deck, with curbs, gutters, guardrails and paving to follow. During the closure, the City warned that the detour would put extra pressure on Crabapple-area roads, especially Birmingham Highway and Mayfield Road during school commutes. If the end-of-October schedule holds, the bridge should reopen around Carvin' in Crabapple on Oct. 24, the last City event of the month.
The Calendar After October
The farmers market ends for the season on Oct. 21. After that, the next confirmed downtown dates belong to the City's holiday series. Christmas in Crabapple returns to Broadwell Pavilion on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 2 to 6 p.m., with the tree lighting at dusk. The City's 2026 event list also includes a Pancake Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 12 and a Tea Party with Mrs. Claus on Dec. 21. The gap between late October and early December is where the proposed Market District rink would fit, if it is confirmed.
